The worst fault of many players is that of under clubbing. When using an iron club it’s preferable to take a club with which it’s possible to easily reach the hole and play for a spot beyond that hole. If the ball is hit true then it will probably finish beyond the hole, but it is just as easy to putt from beyond as from the near side.
On the other hand, if the ball is not hit exactly it will be nearer the hole than if the shot had originally been played to just reach the pin. Many golfers do not seem to mind being short of the pin, but simply loathe seeing their ball go beyond it. Play to be up to the hole with approach play and chance the possibility and your short iron game will improve no end.
